What brought you to Yoga and Yoga Therapy?
Many years ago, a friend encouraged me to take a yoga class. I personally didn’t see myself as being very flexible and I wasn’t into all the Eastern “rituals” that I thought was part of yoga. You can say that I had many misunderstandings about yoga in general, so at the time, I told my friend, “That’s not really my thing.”
Time passed after that first invitation. Then, as a result of an accident, I sustained a neck injury. I have always been very active and for many years had been doing martial arts. As you might imagine, I wasn’t ready to give up my lifestyle so I tried everything medically available, short of surgery, to regain my range of motion and to be free from pain. Nothing seemed to work. My same friend came to me again and explained how yoga could help heal my injury. At that point, I figured I had nothing to lose by at least taking one class. Today, I can honestly tell you that through therapeutic yoga I now have full range of motion in my neck and I am enjoying life again, free of pain. The experience of recovering from chronic pain has inspired my journey to bring therapeutic yoga to a local health and wellness clinic so I can share with everyone these amazing tools for healing.

Why Travel?
I feel like traveling makes you step outside of yourself. We get so caught up in our bubbles, routines, and day-to-day that we sometimes forget to LIVE. When I travel, I get to be whoever I want to be. I get to meet new people, experience new things, eat new foods, and learn so much. You get to have an adventure! I also believe it opens the heart. You get to see different ways of life and learn gratitude in a different way, whether that's for what you have, what you're able to give, or even for the opportunity of travel itself. I think it make you see more good when we can tend to get jaded. And it's think it's best shared with others.
What brought you to Yoga?
Honestly, I went to my first class severely apprehensive. I've struggled with my weight most of my life and had this picture in my head of these tiny, limber people twisting into unnatural shapes and then my out-of-shape butt was going to stumble through the class and be judged.. But that's not what it ended up being at all. I was guided to close my eyes, pay attention to all the inner workings we tend to ignore and to the breath. It was inner work that was the focus and it didn't matter what I looked like. Everyone is tied up in their practice, no one is judging you. Chances are, they may even have the same concerns for themselves!
So, I fell in love. I learned to pause and listen even though it took a lot of practice to even get to the point of laying still in Savasana. It's given me tools that aid my anxiety and temper. It brought me community. And yes, it's helped me get a bit more fit but that's not my focus anymore. The goal is now to take care of my whole being-mind, body and spirit. And I want to be able to hold space for others to find that also.
